When Three Blue Ducks opened in late 2010, it didn’t take long for it to become a local institution. Perched at the top of Bronte, it’s the ideal fuel stop after a day at the beach, finishing the Bondi to Bronte walk or in our case, after a morning of retail therapy.
It’s now recognised as one of Sydney’s best restaurants with a Chefs Hat from the Australian Good Food Guide. Thankfully this & the other awards Three Blue Ducks have won hasn’t tempted the boys to change the local casual feel to the place. I love the colourful graffitied walls, open kitchen, backyard veggie patch & its simple yet fresh seasonal menu.
We ordered the Steak Sandwich with Red Pepper Mayo and the Mussels & Clams with Coconut Chilli Sambal for lunch.
My husband, usually the slower eater, wolfed down the steak sandwich announcing it was the best he’d ever eaten! I did manage to get one mouthful & can vouch for his claim. The steak was really flavoursome & tender and the red pepper mayo had a touch of sweetness which balanced out the tangy onion marmalade to perfection. The mussels I had were tender & juicy however the clams were disappointingly overcooked & chewy. As I mopped up the Chilli Coconut Sambal with the locally baked sourdough bread by Iggy’s, I quickly forgot about this oversight. Overall this dish was really light, fresh & fragrant.
Other items on the lunch menu were Pan Seared Barramundi with Pearl Couscous Salad, Braised Lamb Shoulder with Seasonal Greens and the Pork Belly served with White Bean Cassoulet to name a few. We saw most being whisked from the kitchen, all looking really delicious.
Three Blue Ducks is open for breakfast, lunch & dinner, however I wonder what the atmosphere would be like once the sun has set? Perhaps this is the perfect excuse to visit Three Blue Ducks again soon.
